Kenya: CORD Leader Raila’s Olive Branch To Kuria A Lesson On Pragmatism And Tact

It was a much welcome sight for many peace loving Kenyans when CORD leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday hosted the members of Parliament who had been detained recently over hate charges for lunch at a a popular food joint in Nairobi.

The members of Parliament were from across the political divide and this caused the event to attract a large crowd at K’osewe in Nairobi. Among those present from TNA was Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri. Those from Cord were Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and MPs Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and Junet Mohammed (Suna East), as well as Woman Representatives Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi) and Florence Mutua (Busia).

Many Kenyans received the news of burying the hatchet with mixed feelings. Some don’t believe that politicians can do something from a pure heart. Others see it as a good sign that heralds more cooperation among the politicians and a peaceful environment to conduct business and daily affairs.

They say in politics there are nor permanent enemies or friends, just ambition that brings them together or separates them. If they are able to agree to work together for whatever reason, then that means they are more flexible and open minded than most of their supporters who would kill at the drop of a hat in defense of their leaders.

These politicians have an admirable quality that we can emulate. This childlike optimism and ease of forgetting the past and forging ahead, making new allies and releasing old unions that have served their purpose and only focusing on the important goal which is power.

No wonder they are the richest and among the most successful business people as well. They focus on what is really important in life and are willing to pay the price it takes to achieve it. Even if it means forgiving your enemies and eating from one plate, leveraging on the goodwill generated and re-launching in a bigger and better way.

More intrigues and theatrics await us, as the 2017 general election draws near. Let us sit back and watch.
