Kenya: Chepchumba’s Death – Louis Otieno To Face Fresh investigation

A court has prescribed that previous TV anchorperson Otieno be subjected to a new test to build up his association in the passing of Careen Chepchumba, a companion of his who was killed six years back.

Former Kibera Resident judge Charles Ondiek, who faulted the police of mishandling the examinations, has suggested that samples of Mr Otieno’s finger nails be taken within the sight of Head of Government Chemist who might take them promptly after documentation by police.

The new test will likewise incorporate a note Mr Otieno had routed to Careen’s dad that was found in her home cautioning that the expired was extremely sick, guarantees a specialist discredited in his confirmation.

“That the investigations to include circumstances under which the note addressed to the father of Careen but not delivered and under which the note which was addressed by Careen to the OCPD Kilimani did not reach the target,” the court recommended.

The court was told how nail clippings taken by police from Otieno turned out to be of Careen during analysis by experts at the Government Chemist.

NAIL CLIPPINGS

The court had directed that the mix up of the clippings be investigated.

“Regarding the nail clippings indicated as of the suspect Louis Otieno but after analysis found to be from a female, this court can only come to a general conclusion that there was either a deliberate act or an inadvertent mix up,” Mr Ondiek stated.

“The cause of Careens death was not suicide, it was not accidental. The cause of death of Careen Chepchumba Kili can not be said to be undetermined. The cause was strangulation. These are inevitable findings,” the court stated.

The court also found that police exonerated Mr Otieno of involvement in the Careen’s death even before carrying forensic analysis of his phones and of the deceased to establish where he was at the time of her death.

Ms Careen was found dead inside her apartment at Santonia Court, Kilimani and after investigations police said they did not have a suspect.

A day before she met her death, Ms Careen had indicated to her parents that she would seek police intervention to block Louis from intimidating her.

EXTORTING MONEY

She had claimed that the former journalist had been extorting money from her to finance his flashy lifestyle including medical bills, rent and upkeep.

Mr Otieno denied all the claims and has always maintained that he was neither Ms Careen’s boyfriend nor was he involved in her death. He however admitted that they were friends.

In his evidence in court, Mr Otieno had claimed that Careen was a victim of sexual violence, allegations the court said were uncorroborated and could not be proved.

Mr Otieno recently held a fundraiser dinner at a city hotel in efforts source out for Sh4 million required an ear surgery.

Prior to the fundraiser, Kenyans already donated Sh1.73 million to the former celebrated TV personality.

During a recent TV interview, Otieno narrated how he lost his sense of hearing after months of being hospitalized for a damaged pancreas.
