Bahati member of parliament Kimani Ngunjiri is among the eight MPs who might be barred from vying any elective political seat come 2017 if a petition presented against them will go by.
The Eight MPs risk being barred from participating in the 2017 elections after an activist filed an affidavit at the high court seeking the eight to be barred from contesting any political seat in the forthcoming elections.
Charles Kioko who filed the affidavit wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) not to clear the eight for any political position.
According to Mr Kioko, the leaders have allegedly caused tension in the past, hence are not fit to hold political positions.
“I am within the knowledge to the events that led to the Post Election Violence after the 2007 general election and am worried and have a good reason to be worried that a similar pattern is emerging. Their utterances and any continued hate speech may lead the country into more violence that may eventually lead to genocide if not stopped,” read part of the affidavit.
The petitioner also enjoined the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, The National Cohesion and Integration Commission and the Inspector General of Police as respondents in the petition.
Other legislators mentioned in the affidavit include Moses Kuria-Kiambu, Johnston Muthama-Machakos, Aisha Jumwa-Coast, Ferdinand Waititu-Kabete, Florence Mutua-Machakos and Junet Mohammed-NorthEastern
