Two Jubilee lawmakers have asked the government to initiate talks with the opposition on the fate of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Speaking at different occasions in Nyahururu town Thursday, Laikipia West MP Dr Wachira Karani and Laikipia Women Rep. Mrs Jane Apollos welcomed the move by the opposition to seek dialogue with the Government to resolve the IEBC matter once and for all ahead of next year’s general election.
Dr Karani accused Cord of what he termed as “shooting before aiming” saying they should first call off street demonstrations.
“This is what we expected the opposition to have done in the first place but not to go to the streets. This is now a right move and we want to ask the President and his Deputy to welcome dialogue with the opposition since Kenya belongs to all of us,” he said.
However, the MP warned that the talks should follow the right procedures and not chest thumping.
“We however do not want the opposition to pressure the President and his deputy for dialogue. They should follow the right procedures by adhering to the constitution,” he noted.
On her part, Mrs Apollos criticized the opposition for using innocent youths to go to the streets to demonstrate while demanding for the removal of IEBC commissioners.
She noted that the constitution has clearly outlined procedures to be used in removing the commissioners from office.
“Using innocent youths to demonstrate in the street to demand for the removal of commissioners who have been put in place by the constitution was very wrong. We voted for the constitution and it should be followed without any violation,” she added.
