MaC Venture Capital has chosen financial specialist Jennifer Randle as its first chief operating officer in a historic move. In this role, she will be in charge of company operations, including investor relations, IT and finance, and accounting.
Randle joins MaC after working for The Chernin Group for over 12 years, where she finally rose to the position of executive vice president of operations and finance, according to Insider. According to the site, she helped to grow the company from a family office to a worldwide investment firm with over $1 billion in assets under management during her time there.
She aims to bring her experience to MaC with the same fervor that she began her career with 20 years ago, and she is excited to help the organization because of its goals.
“I wanted to be able to take all the things I have learned over the last 20+ years and help build a firm and be a part of something so amazing and special,” she expressed.
According to Marlon Nichols, a co-founder and managing partner at MaC, there has been a steady flow of investments in underrepresented founders as a result of the company’s original goal of having diversity in its ranks.
“Part of our ethos is to not be a ‘diversity fund’ but to set an example,” Nichols disclosed. “If you truly invest without bias, you will end up with a very diverse portfolio and a high-performing one because that’s what the world looks like. Our team should mirror what the world looks like. Our portfolio should mirror what the world looks like if we’re doing our jobs properly.”
MaC, a majority Black-owned venture business, has led investments in numerous firms, including Twitter rival Spill.
Randle, who joins the firm for the first time, has a BS in Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and is a California Certified Public Accountant.
The entrepreneur began her career with KPMG, where she spent over three years as an auditor of large public firms and start-ups on the verge of going public. While at KPMG’s tax section, she also worked on tax compliance for law firms and venture capital firms.
She went on to work with Worldview Technology Partners for nearly four years, where she was in charge of all accounting and financial reporting for the management business, general partnerships, and limited partnerships.
Finally, before to joining The Chernin Group, she worked as the Controller at Century Park Capital Partners, where she was in charge of the management company’s accounting and financial reporting, as well as limited and general partnerships. She also oversaw the organization’s administrative and operational tasks, including information technology and human resources.
