Here’s Barack Obama’s 2023 Summer Playlist

Barack Obama, like the past president, has a summer playlist that he listens to while cooling off. This year was no exception, as he published his summer playlist, providing insight into the atmosphere he likes to be in while listening to 40-plus songs. “Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer,” the former president tweeted on Thursday.

His collection includes everything from Tina and Ike Turner’s 1996 smash “River Deep Mountain High” to this year’s release “Not Strong Enough” by indie rock outfit Boygenius. Obama’s selection also included throwbacks like 2Pac’s 1990s hip-hop anthem “California Love” with Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman, as well as favorites like the Bangles’ 1980s track “Walk Like an Egyptian.”

The former president also didn’t want to miss out on the current vibes, citing his admiration for Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj’s 2023 hit “Princess Diana” and “Vampiros” by Rauw Alejandro and Rosalia, all of which were published in 2023. However, according to CNN, Obama chose certain songs from his summer 2021 archive, including the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, SZA, Michael Kiwanuka, and Bob Dylan.

Obama also contributed a calming country tune from Luke Comb’s version of Tracy Chapman’s 1998 track “Fast Car,” which just reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, making Chapman the first black woman to do so in the chart’s 33-year history.

The Beths’ “Watching the Credits, Joria Smith’s “Try Me”, Ashley McBryde’s “The Devil I Know” and Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe” also made it to Obama’s summer list.
