Governor Orders Demolition Of Unapproved Buildings To Avert Crisis

Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua has ordered demolition of all unapproved buildings in the County.

Gachagua said County officials from the Planning and Construction inspectorate will move around identifying houses that were not approved and marking them for demolition.

“The planning inspectorate will mark houses that have been built without the relevant approvals. We are going to demolish all unapproved buildings to save lives,” said the Governor.

He observed that the exercise is aimed at averting crisis similar to the Huruma tragedy witnessed in Nairobi last month, killing more than 50 people and leaving scores others with injuries.

He warned property developers to observe construction regulations and acquire requisite licenses.

“All property owners should visit our offices to acquire licenses and approval documents to go ahead with their construction works,” said the Governor.

He added that there buildings coming up at road reserves and others at undesignated areas.
