Government Spokesperson, Eric Kiraithe said Thursday that once the body of the former first lady Lucy Kibaki lands in the country, a three day mourning period will be announced.
The former first lady, fondly referred to as Mama Lucy, passed away Tuesday morning at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London where she had been admitted after falling critically ill.
Speaking during his weekly press briefing in Nairobi, Kiriathe said the body of the deceased will arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Sunday at 5:30a.m.
“Upon arrival of the body, government will announce 3 days of National Mourning and flags throughout the country will fly at half-mast,” said Kiraithe in a statement.
“Starting Friday April 29, condolence books will be available at the following venues: Harambee House, Parliament, KICC, Holy Family Basilica, Consolota Shrine Westlands and all 47 County headquarters,” he added.
The government spokesman said a National working committee comprising members of the Kibaki Family and government officials has been set up to ensure that the deceased is given a befitting send off.
“The National Working Committee will also be responsible for releasing timely and coordinated information of interest to the public,” he said.
