In Ghana: TV Stations Showing “Blue Films” At Night Ordered To Stop

All three stations including TV XYZ have signed a bond of good behavior

The National Media Commission (NMC) has shown the red light to all television stations showing extreme adult-rated movies at night.

These television stations, XYZ TV, Thunder TV and Ice TV; were dragged to the commission by some media practitioners for displaying such content on their screens mostly during late night hours – a development that resorted to a backlash with some managers of the said stations insisting they will not back off.

But the commission has finalized its decision on the matter stating that all three stations do not meet

“At the settlement meeting, the three stations apologized and committed themselves to ensuring that there would be no more obscene content on their stations,” the NMC revealed.

This development follows the strict but liberal wave in the Ghanaian media landscape as media stations, once given a license to operate, have the right to communicate to their audience in every way the audience pleases.

But issues related to offensive content still remain controversial as they are liable to court suits or a revoking of their licenses.
