A former Nelson Mandela Bay municipality administration clerk has been sentenced to seven years in jail for 244 counts of fraud, according to local publication News24.
According to the report, 48 year-old Stephanie Reeners was sentenced in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Gqebertha (formerly Port Elizabeth).
“Between November 2014 and June 2017, Reeners in her capacity as the central administration clerk at the Nelson Bay municipality accepted payments for new building plans”
”She pretended to the building inspectorate that tax invoices were received by the treasury division,” Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela.
The investigative team said it discovered fraudulent transactions involving more than R640,000.
