Football’s world governing body, FIFA has commiserated with the Nigeria Football Federation over the death on Tuesday of former Nigeria international midfielder, John Ene Okon.
In a letter addressed directly to Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, FIFA President Gianni Infantino wrote: “I would like to express my deepest sympathy on hearing the loss of the former Nigeria midfielder John Ene Okon.
“On behalf of FIFA and the worldwide football family, please allow me to extend my deepest condolences to the football community of Nigeria and, most importantly, to his family, friends and loved ones.
“We hope that, in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.”
Ene Okon was the midfield lynchpin of the U-20 National Team, Flying Eagles, to the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship held in Chile.
