President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled a social investment package targeting over eight million citizens across the country.
According to Naij, the plan was contained in a statement released by senior assistant to the President, Laolu Akande, and is due to become operational in the next few weeks.
A key component of the social package is a N5000 grant, which will be dispensed to one million extremely poor Nigerians for 12 months as they search for suitable employment.
In addition, the Federal Government has also made direct provision for soft loan-cash for market women, men traders. This is set to benefit approximately 1.76 million Nigerians, without conventional collateral.
A payment of between N23,000 and N30,000 is set to be paid to 500,000 unemployed graduates who will be trained, paid and deployed for work as volunteer teachers, public health officers and service workers.
Also provided for in the package is a feeding scheme for approximately 5.5 million primary school children, who will be fed for 200 school days,Information Nigeria has reported.
