A 36-year-old lab technician at Kijabe Hospital has been arrested while attempting to help a 21-year-old woman to procure an abortion.
Charles Kilonzi was arrested at the Mwingi Makuti Lodging in Kitui County following a tip from members of the public.
Citizen TV has identified the woman as Eunice Mueni, adding that the two will be arraigned in court soon.
Abortion is illegal in Kenya, forcing most women to resort to risky procedures to terminate unwanted pregnancies.
Reports indicate that about 300,000 pregnancies are conducted in the country every year, mostly in the second trimester.
