County Assembly Employee Charged Over Land Grabbing

A senior employee of Homa Bay County Assembly was on Wednesday arraigned before court charged with forcibly acquiring land.

David Ouma Gor, who is the Deputy Clerk of the County Assembly was charged that on March 2, this year at Genga location in Rangwe Sub-County of Homa Bay County, he forcibly took over land belonging to Peter James Ogutu who was entitled by law to the possession of the said land.

The accused also faced another alternative charge of willfully and unlawfully uprooting crops in cultivated sugar cane and maize plantation on the said land all valued at KES. 200, 000 being the property of the complainant who is his step-brother.

The prosecution told the court that on the material day, the accused became violent and caused a breach of peace.

He denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate, Patricia Gichohi and was released on a bond of KES.100,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

The case was fixed for mention on April 7, 2016 while hearing was fixed for April 26, 2016
