CORD Governor Blasts IEBC Protests

A CORD Governor has blasted the ongoing IEBC protests saying that they are destructive and unhelpful.

Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, despite being for the change in the IEBC says that the loss of lives and destruction of property is not helpful in any way.

In the Kisumu protests, one person died, many were injured and there was destruction of property and businesses in the city.

Ranguma, taking the example of Nairobi which on Monday saw very peaceful protests, says that the economy of the lakeside city will suffer from the violent protests.

” I am for the change in the IEBC and the protests are healthy but we also have to be realistic,” he told News24 on phone.

” There is no need to destroy property of businesses which pay takes and kill off our own economy. The people should protest with that in mind,” he added.

Ranguma urged the people of Kisumu to engage in peaceful protests which are within the law.

” We need to be peaceful. We need to do things the right way. Causing trouble is not,” he added.

A number of businesses were stoned by protesters Monday with major supermarkets in the city damaged extensively while smaller businesses opted to close altogether in the fear of more attacks.
