A customer who had invested all her life savings with Chase Bank has threatened to commit suicide over her money being locked up.
According to Nairobi news Rosemary Wanja said she had saved up to Sh3 million with the bank that now in receivership.
She said she had worked so hard for her money and now could lose everything.
She told the media she had approached the bank in the past to access her savings when rumours started making the rounds about their stability.
Wanja is amongst many who are has invested money with the bank but are set to lose their savings.
Businesswoman Lilian Adhiambo said she is unable to access money necessary for her business to run.
Customers in Nakuru were in shock when the bank’s doors were closed and ATMS shut down.
Central Bank of Kenya on Thursday placed Chase Bank Kenya Ltd under receivership for 12 months to protect depositors, creditors and the public.
Chase Bank Ltd experienced liquidity difficulties following inaccurate social media reports and the departure of two directors and was not able to “meet its financial obligations on April 6”, the central bank said in a statement on its website.
