CAF confident Gabon will be ready for AFCON 2017 despite infrastructure delays

The Confederation of African Football has thrown its full support behind Gabon as the hosts of next year’s AFCON tournament.

CAF spokesperson Junior Binyam remains adamant the biennial event will go ahead as planned. Gabonese President Ali Bongo has reiterated that everything will be ready in time for the 2017 tournament. There have been doubts about Gabon’s preparedness, following August’s disputed elections, as well as reports that construction at two of the four venues is behind schedule.
