Harare – Zimbabwe’s state owned publisher ZimPapers has suffered another blow after being sued for $300 000 by Harare West MP Jessie Majome(MDC-T) who alleged that the publications report’s  early this year impaired on her constitutional right.

Majome a lawyer by profession said that the ZimPapers article titled “Independence Day is coming”, published on April 11, sought to portray her as “unpatriotic immature, disloyal, naïve, petty and generally unfit to be a national political leader”.

NewsDay reported that Majome viewed the article as defamatory and infringing on her constitutional right, thus, she wanted the state owned publication to pay her $300 000 in damages.

According to the cited article, the author described 4 various political leanings which she described as the main choices around the country.

The author went on to portray Majome as falling into the second category that had a strong belief that the current regime was not addressing their needs, thus, they reluctantly participated on issues of national importance due to political differences.

The author, Monica Cheru Mpambawashe, described this group as “theirs not for us” further stating that “This group contains those who are politically against the incumbent ruling political party and do not have the maturity to realise that the patriotism is about the state, not the government. “

Early this month, a retired army major Sydney Mangwende, took Zimpapers to the High Court for publishing “a letter to the editor” that described him as a murder in The Sunday Mail, according to another NewsDay report.

This was after the publisher was in September taken to the High court by a former Zanu-PF legislator David Butau who launched a law-suit after an article published by the Herald and its sister publication The Sunday Mail late last year allegedly infringed on his rights.

According to the Herald Butau launched a lawsuit of $300 000 plus interest at the prescribed rate per annum in compensatory punitive damages for all cause of action.

The article reportedly claimed that Butau an alleged ally to former vice president Joice Mujuru plotted to oust President Robert Mugabe by unlawful means with the aid of foreign governments including the US.
