court

A British citizen who was arrested in Malawi for child trafficking has been denied bail, reports the Nyasa Times.

Roy Robson got arrested on Sunday on suspicion of human trafficking after he was found with seven children, including a four-month-old toddler.

Robson was arrested, together with his Malawian accomplice, Robson Mwale.

Requesting the court to reject the bail application, prosecutor Levison Mangani said that the State needed more time to investigate after the two suspects produced legal papers for the children.

“We would like to investigate the authenticity of the documents [of adoption],” Mangani was quoted saying.

This comes a few weeks after reports indicated that two men were found guilty and fined $366 after they were caught trafficking 18 people to South Africa.

The two were released after they paid the fine.
