Arms Scandal In Nigeria: Metuh Lands Into Hot Water After Tearing Own Statement

Embattled People’s Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, has landed himself into hot water yet again after tearing up his voluntary statement to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Vanguard has reported.

Following his arrest last week over his involvement in the disbursement of N400 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, Metuh reportedly tore his statement after volunteering it to the operatives currently investigating him.

The incident seemed to have been an act of desperation on Metuh’s part, as the politician’s hunger strike has failed to bear fruit.

After tearing up the document, Metuh was alleged to have considered attempting to swallow the papers but was soon stopped by operatives who managed to retrieve the damaged papers.

According to those in the know, Metuh could face a separate charge for the incident, after attempting to destroy evidence in the case, which supposedly amounts to the willful destruction of government property.

The PDP has since ordered the EFCC to release Metuh within 48 hours or charge him to court.
