Charlize Theron was a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel show this week, and schooled the host on South Africa’s “unusual” sports
The actress, who is promoting her new movie Atomic Blonde, told Jimmy that one of her favourite sports growing up was ‘korfbal’.
Of course, the American host had no idea what she was talking about!
“We have very unusual things. In South Africa, a similar game that’s played – looks like a basketball with a basketball-esque kind of ball is only played by girls. Boys don’t play it. One is called ‘netball’ and the other is called ‘korfbal‘. I played both of them,” she said.
An intrigued Jimmy wanted to know if the ball in netball or korfbal is shot at a basket, like in basketball
“You shoot in the most embarrassing way. You have to do a plié, and put the ball between your legs, and then flip it and like spin into the thing,” she tried to explain.
Jimmy told her that’s called a “granny shot” in America.
He picked up a korfball, and made Charlize take part in a three-point challenge.
