South Africa’s Florence Masebe Remembers The Day She Was Shot ’40 Times’

In an Instagram post actress Florence Masebe looked back on the day she was shot 40 times, writing: “There will come a time when I no longer remember what happened to me on this day in 1999.”

According to IOL, Florence had a series of operations to remove bullets and repair wounds, after her attacker fired between six and eight rounds at her car outside her Bramley Park home in Sandton on 18 August 1999.

Move! reported that the Muvhango actress was shot 40 times.

“The scars are a beautiful reminder of what did not happen. I did not die. I am here,” she continued, saying that her victory song is “louder every year.”

Referencing to lyric “Have you ever been shot forty-one times?” from Wyclef Jean’s Amadou Diallo, she said: ” My answer is Yes, SIR! And I did not die. I still play this song a lot. [sic]”

“In a few days my daughter turns 25. She saw me in a pool of my own blood in our driveway on August 18th 1999. No 4 year old should see that, [sic]”  she ended the post.
