Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa says 15 kilograms of heroine were recovered from a particular apartment in Bamburi.
Addressing the media, Marwa said they also recovered Sh18 million in cash believed to be proceeds of narcotics sale.
“We presume the money was proceeds of drugs possibly planned to be used to bribe law enforcers and to smuggle more narcotics,” he said
He termed the arrests a major breakthrough in the war on drugs.
Four vehicles suspected to be used to smuggle the drugs were recovered in the operation.
The five were arraigned in court and detained for five days to enable police complete investigations.
The operation was conducted by senior anti-narcotics officers behind the arrest and extradition of the Akasha sons and two foreigners to the United States.
At least eight suspected drug dealers have been arrested in recent days.
Four were deported to the Seychelles and South Africa on Sunday.
The two South Africans – who are accomplices of the Akashas – were planning to smuggle a huge consignment of mandrax from India to Kenya.
Baktash Akasha aged 40, his brother Ibrahim, 28, Gulam Hussein and Vijaygiri Goswami were arrested in Mombasa for conspiracy to import heroin and methamphetamine into the United States.
US authorities say Baktash is the leader of an organised crime family in Kenya responsible for the production and distribution of narcotics within Kenya and throughout Africa.
