A female politician was on Sunday moved to tears after witnessing the deplorable conditions pupils were enduring at a school in Kirinyaga County.
Speaking at Itangi Primary School in South Ngariama,Wangui Ngirici was overwhelmed by emotions after discovering that pupils at the school had been sitting on a dirty floor while studying due to lack of desks.
To add insult to injury, the school had only two toilets that were being shared by over 180 pupils, while some of the classes built with mud were almost collapsing.
Ngirichi, who is eyeing the Kirinyaga Women Representative seat in the upcoming General Election, opened two classrooms and three toilets she built for the school at a cost of Sh3 Million.
The aspiring Women Representative promised to build Itangi Primary School toilets and classrooms a few months ago following pleas from the locals.
Wangui urged the Government to offer the school, facilities similar to those in other learning institutions in the country to promote equality.
She accused the County Government of neglecting the schools and doing nothing to change the situation, K24 reports.
Wangui is a businesswoman in Kirinyiga and in her quest to become the next Women Representative, she will face off with Rose Muguchu and County Assembly speaker Anne Githinji who have declared their interest in the seat.
