Cape Town Ranked Most Congested City in South Africa

For the second year‚ Cape Town is ranked as the most congested city in South Africa – and the 47th worst in the world – in the annual traffic index from Dutch navigation equipment maker TomTom.

Johannesburg is ranked 77th out of 174 cities listed‚ but Durban doesn’t get a mention.

Cape Town residents spend an extra 40 minutes in traffic every day than the worldwide average‚ and Johannesburg motorists lose 35 minutes to congestion – the equivalent of six days a year.

The world’s most congested metropolis is Mexico City‚ where congestion adds an average of 57 minutes to the daily commute‚ followed by Bangkok‚ Istanbul‚ Rio de Janeiro and Moscow.
