A Zimbabwean court was the scene of an amazing legal conflict just recently. A woman sued her co-wife for making use of an image of her husband as her profile photo on the messaging application WhatsApp.
As they say, what the mind struggles to imagine, reality offers up with a shrug. That was the case last week when a Zimbabwean woman went to a Harare court asking it to issue a strange ruling: that it stop another woman from using her husband photo as her profile picture on WhatsApp. I’ll give you a minute to absorb that.
According to New Zimbabwe, the complainant Miriam Dziva went to a civil court in Harare last week to ask the magistrate to prevent the respondent Tamari Sithole from continuing to use a photo of a man only identified as “Shepherd” as her profile picture on the mobile messaging up. Claiming to be the man’s legal wife, Dziva wanted the magistrate hearing the matter to issue a “protection order” in her favour.

The plot thickens!
New Zimbabwe reports that Dziva’s main gripe with Sithole is she often downloads the same photo she (Dziva) uploads to WhatsApp to use as her profile picture.
“Whenever I put my husband’s profile picture on my profile she (Sithole) downloads them and uses the same on her profile picture too,” an angry Dziva said.
“I wanted her to stop this habit,” she concluded fuming.
Besides that,Dziva also wanted the court to stop Sithole from attending events held by Shepherd’s family because – in her view – she (Sithole) is not part of it.
“She recently attended my father-in-law’s funeral yet she is not our relative. I also want her bared from attending our gatherings,” Dziva said. ”
The plot thickened when Sithole replied to Dziva’s allegations.
She claimed that not only was she Shepherd’s first wife, but she was also expecting his child. (Yes, gasp!)
“I am his first wife and I don’t see any problem with putting my husband’s photos on my WhatsApp profile,” said Sithole.
The plot thickened when Sithole replied to Dziva’s allegations.
Not amused!
As you can imagine, the strange legal dispute is the cause of some amusement in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe: Wives Go to Court Over Husband’s Whatsapp Profile Picture
TWO Harare women have gone to court in a row over use of their shared husband’s picture on the mobile phone messenger platform WhatsApp.

Not at all amused was the magistrate before whom the case was heard. Gamuchirai Siwardi threw out the matter saying the court could not stop the complainant’s husband from seeing another woman if he wanted to.
