The Niger Delta Youth Coalition (NDYC) has appealed to government to extend the cleanup campaign to other parts of the region.

The campaign has been launched in Ogoniland in the Rivers State.

The National Coordinator of NDYC, Emmanuel Ogba, said while the organisation commended the Federal Government for the exercise, they wished to urge the government to extend the exercise to other parts of the Niger Delta region.

He said this was because the negative impact of oil pollution was not restricted to Ogoni but to other parts of the region.

“Pollution has destroyed aquatic lives, drastically reduced yields in farming and fishing which are the occupation of our people,” said Ogba.

The youth group meanwhile decried the manner in which the oil blocks were allocated.

“This is wickedness and against the spirit of co-existence,” he stated.
