A CORD MP has accused leader Raila Odinga of misleading Kenyans in the IEBC stalemate.

Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa says that despite the need to change the IEBC and enact new electoral structures, the call by the coalition to urge MPs to skip Parliamentary sessions and committees which could help solve the stalemate was wrong.

CORD had ordered its MPs to skip the joint House committee which has been mandated by the National Assembly to process two bills meant to provide a legal framework for the appointment of the next commissioners for the electoral agency.

Wamalwa though, failed to heed the call and attended the meeting, which he said he was obligated to by the people he represents in Parliament.

” I am here to serve the people of Kenya and as such I will play my role in the best way possible,” he said of the committee meetings.

He said that despite agreeing that the IEBC must be changed, he will do his best to seek a different means of closure to the ongoing clamour for street protests and chaos.

” We all have the same goal, which is to disband the IEBC but we cannot abandon our civil obligations, which would mean we are letting down Kenyans,” he added.

Wamalwa was not alone in snubbing the CORD directive.

Other MPs who did so are Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba, Olago Aluoch (Kisumu West, Ford Kenya) and Manson Nyamweya (South Mugirango, ODM).
