Kenya Former Minister Ngala Mwendwa Is Dead

Former Cabinet Minister Eliud Ngala Mwendwa is dead. The 94-year-old former minister for Labour in the independence Cabinet of Kenya’s founding President the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta died at the Nairobi Hospital early Wednesday.

“Mzee was transferred from Kitui County Referral Hospital five days ago and was being nursed at the city hospital until today when he met his death,” said his son Kitavi Ngala.

Mr Mwendwa participated in the Lancaster house talks that yielded Kenya’s independence constitution and self-rule.

Son to Mwendwa Kitavi, a prominent colonial Kamba chief in Kitui, Mwendwa served briefly in the pre-independence multiparty Cabinet under Ronald Ngala of Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU) and was part of the 15 member first independence Cabinet at independence in 1963 under the late President Kenyatta.
