A Jubilee MP has lashed at deputy President William Ruto for spoiling the Madaraka Day celebrations mood by delivering what he termed as a ‘divisive’ speech.
Kuresoi south MP, Zakayo Cheruiyot said that the DP’s speech was aimed at attacking CORD leader Raila Odinga instead of addressing pressing national issues.
Speaking Wednesday in Nakuru town after the celebrations, Cheruiyot said that Ruto’s speech spoiled the mood of the day.
He accused Ruto of being too personal and harbouring unnecessary hatred towards the opposition.
“The DP sounded bitter in his address and he seemed to be attacking one Raila Odinga. The celebration was in the right mood until he stood to speak and turned the national day into a Jubilee affair,” said Cheruiyot.
“I wonder if he would have deliveed that speech if the CORD leader attended the Afraha celebrations,” he added.
“The DP being a national leader should have used a reconciliatory tone in his speech because bitterness only makes things worse and causes more divisions in the country,” he said.
In his address, deputy President William Ruto accused Raila of disrespecting all constitutional bodies and questioned his moral standing. Ruto maintained that issues regarding the IEBC will not be solved over a cup of tea or street protest filled with clouds of teargas and insisted that the rule of law must be followed.
“It cannot be that you don’t trust the IEBC, you don’t trust the Judiciary, you don’t trust Parliament then what are your credentials?” posed Ruto.
“It cannot be that every time an institution makes a decision which is not favourable to you, you start calling for the removal of the institution,” he added.
