Grief has engulfed residents of Thunguma village in Nyeri town after a quarry caved in, burying one of the miners alive.
One of the workers, Stanley Kanyi, said he was at his working station when he heard a loud bang and upon reaching, he spotted his colleague who was already dead.
Kanyi said that County Government officials had earlier toured the quarry and pledged to provide them with excavators in order to curb accidents at the area.
He said that the quarry hosts more than 100 workers who encounter difficulties while mining.
He called on the County Government to intervene and help them with excavators to ease their work.
Police officers from Nyeri Central Police station removed the body to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital mortuary.
