Stern Actions To Be Taken Against Two Laikipia Cops

Laikipia county commissioner Apollo Okello has said that stern action will be taken against two police officers who accompanied an assistant chief who was attacked by a brewer.

Speaking today using a public baraza at karandi area in Laikipia west, the county commissioner warned that stern actions will be taken against the two police constables who had accompanied Mrs Jane Muchai, Karandi assistant chief when she was attacked by a chang’aa brewer during a crackdown two weeks ago.

“How can a chief be assaulted by one person while in the company of two male police officers? We are still investigating the two officers and if what we are hearing from members of the public is true stern action will be taken against them,” said Mr Okello.

Mrs Muchui was allegedly set up by the two police officers when they raided a drinking den within her area.

The attack left her with a broken arm and serious chest injuries creating uproar from members of the public.

He at the same time gave Chiefs in Laikipia County one week to end the illicit brew menace.

Mr Okello made it clear that the chiefs risked losing their jobs if the menace continues in their jurisdictions.

“Am giving all chiefs in Laikipia county one week to end illicit brews menace and any chief who the menace will continue within his or her jurisdiction will definitely go home,” he noted.

However, several chiefs in the area have claimed that their lives have been endangered by the war against illicit brews as they were being threatened by the brewers even during the day.

Police are still investigating an incident where leaflets were circulated at the homes of three chiefs in the area.
