The National Police Service Commission chairperson, Johnstone Kavuludi has warned fraudsters ready to fleece unsuspecting youths during police recruitment.
“Recruitment is free of charge and very fair. Police officers are not expected to ask for money before recruiting one into the forces,” said Kavuludi.
He said money for training is provided for by the national government and they have come up with a fair criterion for choosing the best candidates.
Kavuludi asked new recruits into the service to be prepared for deployment in areas perceived as hostile upon completion of their training.
He ruled out the possibility of not sending new police officers, who will be recruited starting Monday to areas that have been insecure in the past years.
“Those selected should be prepared to be sent anywhere in this country especially those regions where security is most wanted,” Kavuludi said.
He added, “There are parents who are calling me and asking me to assure them that their children will not be taken to hostile grounds after finishing training. I have told them they will be taken there.”
Kavuludi spoke when he presided over a thanksgiving ceremony at Mudasa Academy for good performance by the class of 2015 in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
He said serving the country while in the forces in areas that are prone to cattle rustling, banditry or terrorism is the best way one can say he has done his duty effectively.
“There is nothing wrong being posted to Garissa because one will not live there forever. That is the best way of serving the country,” he said.
He encouraged parents who have children with interest in joining forces to allow them turn up in large numbers when police recruitment starts countrywide today.
