A father of one has been slapped with 10 years imprisonment for attempting to kill his wife following a fight over food.
Joseph Wachira was handed the sentence by Nanyuki Principal Magistrate Waititu Gichomo.
The court heard that he committed the offence against his Hannah Wambui on October 4, 2015 at Likii village.
Wambui told the court that she was unable to prepare lunch that day as she was unwell, but a neighbour volunteered to help her cook.
When she served the food, however, her husband took the plate of food and threw it at her.
At night, tension escalated and she told Wachira that she would leave the following day but when she tried to leave early in the morning, the convict refused and a confrontation ensued.
He picked a knife and attempted to slit her throat before escaping, leaving the complainant bleeding profusely.
Her six-year-old child alerted their neighbour who took her to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral hospital for treatment before reporting the incident to Nanyuki police station.
He denied the charges but court said prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and that he was guilty of the offence.
