Namibian Man Gets 18-Year Sentence For Witchcraft Killing

Windhoek – A Namibian man has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of murdering his neighbour for allegedly bewitching him and his family.

Moses Himelundilwa Alfred, 33, was said to have already spent more than four and a half years in prison awaiting the conclusion of his trial at the Oshakati High Court.

According to The Namibian, Alfred used a stick to assault the victim, Rosalina Reminius Amukwa, 62, resulting in a fracture to her arm, injuries to her liver and kidneys and bleeding on her brain.

During his testimony, Alfred said that he had committed the murder after consulting several witch doctors over a prolonged illness that he, his brother and his mother had contracted.

In addition, Alfred also disclosed that he had requested one of the witch doctors to kill Amukwa for him, but he had decided to take matters into his own hands after his mother fell ill once again.

Witchcraft has always been an issue in Namibia, with a previous News24 report saying that a reddish clay pot containing a cloth with a needle stuck in it recently caused a stir in the country’s informal settlement of Havana.

Abraham Matias, a bar owner, who discovered the strange articles on his doorstep, accused his neighbour of trying to draw customers from his business.
