Lusaka – The African parliamentarians Networks Against Corruption (APNAC) has demanded that Zambia’s next government should revisit former president Rupiah Banda’s government-to-government oil deal with Nigeria, reports thePost.

Banda was acquitted in June last year after a court case in which he was alleged to have personally benefited from a $2.5m oil deal with Nigeria.

Banda was charged with abusing his authority in awarding the Nigerian contract.

Banda, who led the southern African nation from 2008 to 2011, faces a maximum of five years in prison if convicted.

APNAC Zambia Chairperson Cornelius Mweeta said on Sunday that the next government to be voted into power had the obligation to revisit the case.

Mweeta accused the current government, led by President Edgar Lungu, of lacking will in the fight against corruption.

APNAC, which was formed in 1999 in Uganda, is an international network which aims at co-ordinating, involving and strengthening the capacity of African parliamentarians to fight corruption and promote good governance.
