Sofia – Bulgarian authorities evacuated a part of Sofia’s international airport on Tuesday over concerns that a bomb was planted in a van parked outside a terminal, Nova TV reported.

The alarm was triggered shortly before noon (10:00 GMT) over a suspicious van with Belgian licence plates that was parked five hours earlier near the airport’s Terminal 1, it said.

While police towed away the van from the paid parking area, even three hours later they had not confirmed is any explosives were found.

The authorities said they will keep the terminal closed until midnight.

In July 2012, a bus transporting Israeli tourists to an airport in Bulgaria’s Black Sea resort of Burgas was targeted in a suicide bombing, which killed six and wounded 32.
