Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko will vie for the 2017 Nairobi Governors seat, but so too will Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, meaning a titanic battle in the city awaits.
Sonko will try beat Wanjiru to the tape, the most likely scenario considering his popularity.
However, Wanjiru is said to be very keen and has already set her stall and is looking to wrestle control in the city early, going by her movements in recent times.
She is said to have already put up a team to set her up for contesting for the Governor’s seat.
Also, the fact that she has declared herself the National Alliance TNA party Nairobi Branch Chairperson has already caused jitters among some rivals.
” She has come here recently and is trying to bulldoze herself in here,” Starehe MP Maina Kamanda said Sunday of the move by Wanjiru to name herself the Branch chairperson.
” She has never been elected chairman. There is a party chairman by the name Gitonga Ndegwa,” Kamanda added.
Bishop Wanjiru insists that she won the seat during an election in July where three candidates took part.
The battle will likely intensify come 2016 as candidates start flexing their muscles in a bid to move closer to the party ticket to allow them face off with current Governor Evans Kidero come 2017.
