Nigeria: Rivers PDP lauds court verdict on Amaechi appeal

Lagos – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed Thursday’s judgment of a Port Harcourt High Court dismissing the suit filed by the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, challenging the Judicial Commission of Enquiry on his administration.

The current administration led by Governor Nyesom Wike, established the commission to probe alleged misconduct.

“There is no hiding place for the former Governor and his allies who looted the state, converted public facilities to personal properties, and misappropriated billions of Dollars belonging to the state

“… some of which he used to fund activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before, during and after the general elections in and outside the State by the Rivers State Government,” Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Rivers PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah, said.

Obuah, while commending the High Court Presiding Judge on the matter, noted that by this judgment, “the former Governor and all those who collaborated with him in making Rivers State bankrupt will now face justice, and that the Judiciary has further demonstrated its uprightness and unbiased disposition in the dispensation of justice.”

“The party also calls on the Judicial Commission of Enquiry set up by the Wike administration to investigate the former Governor and his administration to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice prevails and all those found culpable in course of its findings on the thematic areas as contained in its terms of reference are brought to book accordingly.”

Tensions characterise the Rivers State. While the current administration is probing Amaechi’s administration, APC is challenging Wike’s elections as governor earlier this year, citing irregularities.
