A 77-year old granny was today arraigned in Nyahururu court for allegedly defiling an eight year old girl.
James Nyang’au denied the charges before resident magistrate Ms Victoria Ochanda and was released on Sh 300, 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.
Nyang’au was charged that on June 5, 2016 at Maili Saba village, Marmanet Location in Laikipia County he defiled the eight year old girl.
He was faced with an alternative charged of committing an indecent act with a minor.
The court heard that the granny lured the girl into a maize plantation where he allegedly committed the offence.
However, children who were also playing with the little girl in an open field saw the suspect coming from the maize farm with a panga before they heard distress calls from the complainant.
The court further heard that members of the public who responded to alarm managed to arrest the suspect and frogged matched him to Ol-Jabet police station where he was rearrested and charges preferred against him, while the minor was rushed to Ol-Jabet Health Centre where she was treated and discharged.
The case will be heard on June 27 and mentioned on June 16, this year
