Residents of Kalengo village in Eastern Uganda Teso region are surprised, confused as well as shocked about a young man of 28 years old who married 70 year old woman.
The woman has 9 children some older than Oboi.
Kalengo village chief , Robert Esel has identified the young man as John Oboi and the old woman as Marita Asekenye. He said that the couple has been together for the last 7 months.
Esel is however not happy about the marriage saying that the young man could be under a spell to marry a woman almost three times his age.
”There must something wrong with that man. The woman could have given the man love potion.” said Esel.
He added on that the woman had children older than Oboi.”Can you imagine that the woman has a son who is 40 yrs old. ” said Esel.
Oboi said he loves Asekenye very much because she understands him more than the younger women he had ever loved.
”I admired her the moment I met her in a bar. She also accepted me and we later started living together,” Oboi said.
Asekenye wondered why people are criticizing her for getting married to man fit to be her son.
”I wonder why people attack me for marrying Oboi. They should ask him why he loves me. They should mind their business and leave us alone.” said Asekenyi.
One of the women leaders on the village, Gloria Atim said that what Asekenyi did shames the women, not only in their village but the country at large.
”At 70, Asekenyi can even be a grandmother of a 27 year old person. The man he lives with is 27 years. So she is married to a man fit to be her grandson. It is unfortunate.”said Atim.
