Zimbabwe Amongst Top 30 Countries Relaxing Visa Restrictions On Tourists

Zimbabwe has been ranked amongst the world’s top 30 countries that have made advances in reducing restrictions on the free movement of tourists in the past seven years, said a report on Monday.

According to News Day, the 157-member United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) ranked Zimbabwe 29th from a total of 54 countries that were deemed to have made progress towards relaxing visa restrictions on tourists.

The report said that Zimbabwe had implemented a total of 117 reforms that made it easy for tourists to visit the country.

Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi was praised for “providing strong leadership” in the UNWTO regional commission for Africa, and setting the tourism agenda for mainstreaming in the African Union Agenda 2063.

According to Alll –Africa the tourism sector in Zimbabwe would be given another boost after the government granted a rebate of duty on the import of capital goods for expansion and modernisation as part of deliberate efforts to ensure the growth of the sector.

The report revealed that the new law would allow tourism operators to import new capital equipment for expansion and modernisation, for renovations of hotels and lodges and for boat equipment among other goods.
