The United States is working with Nigeria and other partners in the region to develop a comprehensive counter-Boko Haram strategy, an envoy said.
US Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, said the strategy includes a more coordinated military campaign, improved humanitarian access and response, a well-resourced stabilisation and governance strategy, and expanded efforts to combat violent extremism.
She stated this late Thursday during her meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.
Power also highlighted the growing threat Boko Haram‬ poses to the Lake Chad Basin region.
She also engaged with leaders of Bring Back Our Girls group, civil society, internally displaced persons, students and other young Nigerians.
Power’s visit has also taken her to Cameroon and Chad, which are also affected by the Boko Haram crisis.
