Musician Nankoma Sandra is set for her maiden concert. Dubbed the Black Dame Experience, the show is one that intends to push the message the artiste has always been passionate about, being proudly black and will be held at Protea Hotel in Kampala on October 4.
Since her art exhibition Melanin in 2017 and the adequate release of her debut self titled album, Nankoma has used her single Kaddugala to denounce bleaching that has become a scourge among women in modern Africa.
In the song, Nankoma talks of how she is proudly dark skinned and thus will never bow to the pressure to make her shade lighter.
The song was last year nominated for the Most Inspiration Song of 2018 at the Afrima awards that take place in Nigeria and Nankoma beat out the competition to bring the award home. Other winners that night included Bebe Cool and Irene Namatovu.
Nankoma has since released the video for Kaddugala and a second single, still of the Nankoma Sandra album, Mwisuka.
At the beginning of August, Nankoma dazzled festival goers with a memorable performance at the annual Bayimba International Festival of the Arts in Lunkulu in Mukono District.
She notes that what people will see at her show at Protea Hotel will be above the experience at Bayimba.
Tickets will all go for shs 100,000. Nankoma says that she doesn’t group her fans because she believes everyone of them is a VIP in his/her own capacity.
