Johannesburg – The National Prosecuting Authority says it will not make the recent changes to its leadership structure public.
“Those are internal operational decisions,” spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku told News24.
“Operational issues you don’t have to make public. It’s not for media consumption.”
During a briefing earlier on Tuesday, National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahamsannounced that he had reshuffled the leadership of the NPA.
This was done in line with his vision of taking the institution further, he told reporters in Pretoria.
He also said the reshuffle would not be made public.
Earlier, City Press reported that two senior sources had confirmed that one of the most significant changes was the appointment of former deputy director of public prosecutionsNomgcobo Jiba to the position of head of national prosecution services.
This was the highest decision making body in the NPA.
The department was initially led by Dr Silas Ramaite, who has reportedly been moved to corporate services.
Abrahams announced on Tuesday that charges of perjury and fraud against Jiba would be withdrawn.
Jiba was due to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.
The charges related to her decision to prosecute Johan Booysen, the head of the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal, on racketeering charges.
Last week, Booysen was served with a “notice of contemplated suspension” from police management.
