The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has denied that it is behind the abduction of Colonel Samaila Inusa, a senior army officer, in order to secure the release of its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, from detention.
Inusa, a colonel, was seized in his Mercedes-Benz car by gunmen around Kamazo, along Kaduna Refinery Road, in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State on Saturday night.
There were reports that the abduction of the army officer might be a revenge mission by the Shiite Islamic sect against the Army over the deadly clash in Zaria in December 2015.
But, the group’s spokesman, Ibrahim Musa, in a statement issued on Monday, said that the report which quoted some unnamed sources that linked IMN to the kidnap, is part of the government’s campaign of calumny and false propaganda against the movement.
He said it was virtually illogical and unreasonable for anyone to presume that the IMN would turn around to engage in such acts of immorality.
He stated that with the recent allegation, it was obvious that the government and its Army are going further with their plans of campaign of calumny against the group.
