The Super Eagles, after a rather shy start, managed to take the lead over their Cameroon opponents with two goals scored before the end of the first game. It’s Odion Ighalo opening the scoring in the 29 th minute followed by John Obi Mikel just before the break at the 42 th minute.
In the second half, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho register the third and fourth goal in the 55 thand 76 th minute. Until the end of the match, the Cameroonians, overwhelmed by the Nigerians, were unable to break through the net.
For Cameroon this defeat keeps them from qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia while the team is second in the group with only 2 points before the return match at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Cameroon.
Although it will be a tough match with Nigeria who will seek to maintain their position to obtain their ticket to Russia, Cameroonians hope that the indomitable lions will take their revenge because another defeat would eliminate them.
Coach Hugo Broos and his foals have plenty to do.
