Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau has called on security agencies to be on high alert as the country moves towards the 2017 general elections.
Kamau said there was need for security agencies to ensure that there is peace in the country before, during and after the general elections.
The MP said the security apparatus, the office of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethnics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) should crack the whip on the emerging cases of political violence witnessed in some parts of the country.
Speaking in his constituency, Kamau noted that Kenyans have witnessed several cases of political violence, with the most recent one being the Kakamega rally, where Cord co-principal Moses Wetang’ula was launching his presidential bid.
The event was marred with chaos leaving scores nursing injuries.
Kamau condemned the incident, noting that on such occasions, goons have always been hired to cause chaos and disrupt meetings.
“This is uncouth and portrays political immaturity,” he said.
The legislator noted that hooliganism has also been employed in Murang’a County, giving reference of governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s Thika residence raid, where EACC officers were harassed and flashed out of premises by some yuthes.
Kamau noted that Kenya has come of age, and people should let go old trends and embrace politics of diversity.
He also appealed to politicians to curb the vice and asked all government agencies to perform their roles diligently to expose those behind political violence.
