Nigerian Musician, Daddy Showkey Declares Interest In Politics

John Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey has made it public that he might consider running for a political office in the future, to save his home, Ajegunle.

48-year-old Showkey was born in Ajegunle and somehow never left the area, despite it being known as a Lagos suburb that is notorious for its filthiness and criminal tendencies, he considers it home.

In a recent interview, Showkey, declared his intent to run for office and revealed that he ever did, it will be because of his neighbourhood, which he desires to save.

Speaking with our Correspondent, the veteran galala singer expressed disappointment that his neighbourhood is only remembered when politicians want to campaign, but when it comes to implementing real development, the snooze button is hit.

When asked, the singer who once had to take a long break from music because of a ghastly accident that resulted in a spinal injury, boldly stated that the best way to curb crime in his neighbourhood was to engage the children but no steps have been taking by the past and present government to change the mind boggling issues.

Declaring his intent, he said: “One day…yes now in my house. I’m not doing it because of the intention that I want to run for politics but right now with the situation that I am seeing in my neighbourhood because Ajegunle is the most important place for me, maybe I might consider,”

“That area is like they come and use us for the campaigning, when it comes to development, they neglect us. That’s why I’m critical about what is going on in Lagos state today.”

“I am watching. We dey look una, we are looking at you people because this is something I have been fighting for so many years, from Tinubu government to Fashola’s government to the present government, and all of them about this thing the only thing that can limit crime in my neighbourhood is to get these children engaged and the only thing that can limit crime is when they have a playground, a recreation centre and they don’t.”

Running for a political office is not easy and most times, in Nigeria, it requires having a lot of money.

Interestingly, Showkey, has managed to stay happy all his years living in Ajegunle. There’s no doubt that he is passionate about developing place. To survive in such area, one needs to a special brand of human. It’s no wonder, he revealed that his attitude to life is to be happy and enjoy the happenings around him.
