The turn of events is indicating more troubles for the embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The confirmation by the Kwara State government that it was paying Saraki’s pension, instead of salary has not helped the embattled senator.

The Kwara State government while reacting to evidences tendered against Saraki that he continued to received salaries after he left office as governor explained that Saraki only receives pension.

The clarification instead has only worsened the case against Saraki, as no public officer is entitled to draw money from two government sources at the same time.

It was gathered that all payments to him by Kwara State ought to have stopped when he became a senator as he became engaged by the Federal Government as a senator and paid all emoluments of the office.

According to the Code of Conduct rule, no public officer should receive or be paid the emoluments of any public office at the same time as he receives or is paid the emoluments of any other public office.

The section of the Code of Conduct rule emphatically says:

(1) A public officer shall not, after his retirement from public service and while receiving pension from public funds, accept more than one remunerative position as chairman, director or employee of: a company owned or controlled by the government; or any public authority.

It was further gathered that when the attention of the Kwara State government was drawn to this section of the Code of Conduct rule when Saraki became the Senate President in June 2015, the government stopped remitting ‘pensions’ into Saraki’s account
